Office Cleaning – How to Maintain an Office?

Office cleaning and maintenance should be a regular process in any company that cares about itself and its employees.

Well-maintained and clean spaces create a pleasant overall impression for employees, clients, and visitors. Additionally, clean spaces help create a safe and healthy working environment.

Office Cleaning

Unfortunately, dirt tends to accumulate sooner or later due to both people-related and independent factors. The solution to this problem is a regular cleaning service. You need to decide whether to maintain the workspaces yourself or hire a professional cleaning company.

When cleaning spaces on your own, you must consider various factors. Here are some important recommendations to keep in mind. First, you need to create a cleaning plan that specifies what to clean, how, and how often. The frequency of office cleaning depends on several factors: the functionality of the space, the level of use, the number of employees, the size, the location, and other factors.

Often, the most common causes of illness are poor hygiene and dust. Dust and dirt should be carefully and frequently removed from surfaces. Regular cleaning of upper surfaces, such as cabinet tops, shelves, and light fixtures, is essential. Over time, dust accumulates there, and the movement of air causes the dust to circulate in the room and settle back on surfaces.

For dust and lighter dirt removal, it is advisable to use microfiber cloths, either dry or slightly damp. The specialty of this cloth is that it cleans effectively with little or no cleaning agent. The cloth has fine and rough fibers that lift dirt from surfaces and trap it in the fibers.

For better office cleaning results, use professional cleaning products specifically designed for certain surfaces. The downside of retail cleaning chemicals is their excessive aggressiveness, and after drying, cleaning agent stains may appear.

Cleaning Methods

Office cleaning should include cleaning various surfaces: desks, glass surfaces, computer screens, kitchen surfaces, sanitary surfaces, etc. In addition to using the right cleaning agents, it is essential to use specific cloths for different surfaces.

The simplest method is to use a “four-color cloth system.” Each colored cloth is used for cleaning specific surfaces, such as: blue for general surfaces, yellow for kitchen cleaning, green for bathroom cleaning, and red only for cleaning the toilet bowl.

Therefore, it is unhygienic and dangerous to health to use the same cloth for cleaning the toilet and then the kitchen table. In offices, computers are generally the primary tools, and they tend to collect dust and dirt. Dust can be successfully removed from computer and TV screens with a dry microfiber cloth.

Most of the dirt in offices enters through people’s feet. Therefore, it is important to install a doormat system at the door to prevent dirt, sand, and dust from entering the indoor spaces. Effective use of mats extends the life of floors, keeps spaces cleaner, and reduces maintenance costs.

When cleaning floors, it is recommended to follow the maintenance instructions for the specific type of floor. The general rule is to first remove loose dirt dry to avoid scratching the floor. Then, clean the floor with a damp mop, using the appropriate cleaning solution to remove any remaining stubborn dirt.

For daily dirt removal from carpets, use a vacuum cleaner in good working condition, and for heavier stains, treat them with a neutral or slightly alkaline cleaning agent.

When maintaining workspaces, remember that the right techniques and work intervals are crucial. Tools must be clean; otherwise, dirt is just moved from one place to another. The essential rules are: clean from top to bottom, from cleaner surfaces to dirtier ones, and use dry methods before wet methods.
